We’re All The Same

I’m currently reading The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins. I’m about 3 chapters in. There’s a section in the book that i forgot to highlight that really spoke to me. It speaks about the importance of a particular insect in the evolutionary food chain. The insect in question doesn’t live long. From the outside it seems as if the insects primary reason for existence is as a food source for predators.
I found this enlightening because it explained my perspective on the role each of us play in the universe at large. There were times when i found it hard to relate to friends who didn’t share the same sort burning ambition to take over the world as i did. I questioned why they didn’t question anything and why they seemed so at peace being blissfully stagnant. I just didn’t get it. But as with all things your perspective changes over time and the people you meet along the way. You start to realise that wherever you are in the world we all tend to share the same characteristics. Whether or not they’re perfectly aligned with yours isn’t important, what’s important is you’re ability to relate to others no matter who they are or what they do.
It’s a lot easier said then done, i’m not denying that,  but for the most part it goes a long way in shaping your character into the person you want to be.
